Community Impact Campaigns developed through the Ad Council require an average of $250,000 in goods and services for the first 12 – 18 months of campaign development and implementation alone. While a significant amount of that value is provided through volunteers and contributions, our tracking shows an estimated $27,000 in costs is incurred annually by the Ad Council to provide project management services for the campaign. As the complexity and scope of the community impact campaigns have increased, so have these costs.

What does “project management” mean?

On any given project the specifics vary – depending on the specific needs of the project team – but at its heart, it means that the Ad Council serves as the central point of management for the project. Some of the most common services provided to Community Impact Campaign teams by Ad Council staff include:

  • Assistance with developing client application, processing of applications and review meetings, orientation of client team members;
  • Orientation of all volunteer staff working on the project;
  • Volunteer recruitment including advertising agency as well as other services such as photography, broadcast production, voice-over talent, makeup, and models as needed;
  • Scheduling team meetings for the duration of the process;
  • Securing media and managing media donations;
  • Establishing and/or reviewing program goals, strategies and measures;
  • Assistance with developing research strategies and review of proposals and findings;
  • Ensuring an integrated, strategic communications plan to support the campaign is developed;
  • Assistance with budget development for out-of-pockets costs related to collateral material;
  • Ensuring that a marketing brief is completed and approved by all team members;
  • Assistance in providing endorsement and supporting information for grant applications;
  • Review and input on all materials developed;
  • Media planning and placement;
  • Public relations planning, including media relations coaching.

The partnership requires a $5,000 cash and match from the client or nonprofit collaborative.
