History

Founded in 1950, the Advertising Council of Rochester is the only organization of its kind in the country. We are community-based and rely on the financial support of the local business community, private foundations and individual donors to accomplish our work.

We provide more than $2 million annually in marketing and communications support to plan and implement local public service initiatives.

Historical projects include supporting the Community Chest/United Way campaign for 45+ years, membership drive campaign for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Breast Cancer Awareness and Education Campaign and HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention Campaign.

In the last five years, we have dramatically shifted our work from one-time, tactical projects (producing a brochure for a nonprofit) to a more global, community-need approach, focusing on issues like strengthening families, functional adult literacy, volunteer recruitment, and advocating for the disabled.
